When I run the Windows XP Home Edition installation CD on my WIndows ME, there's only the option called "New Installation". There ain't the other option called "Upgrading" which I want. What's causing this to happen and how do I solve it?

It sounds like you're trying to install/upgrade to WinXP Pro? You can't "upgrade" from WinME to WinXP Pro; you have to perform a clean install. For an "upgrade" (settings tranferred, etc) from WinME you'll have to use XP Home edition.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but this is my understanding.

I upgraded from WinME to XP Pro so there is something wrong. But the user "Nexus" is trying to upgrade to WinXP "Home" edition which makes it even weirder that the upgrade option is not there. You may want to try closing any app that is running (Anti-virus, Zonealarm etc) and then run the XP installation. I am installing XP Home on a 98SE machine today for a friend so I will look up some info on it and get back to you if I find something.

Good Luck Mike

I have upgraded ME to XP professional and it's working. My friend tried to do the same but he couldn't because he tried to upgrade to XP which had different language.
