I upgraded form Win 98 to XP Home. I did not uninstall my printer or mcaffee before the upgrade and now I cannot update mcaffee or my printer drivers. The error message tells me to uninstall the old printer software and mcaffee. I used add/remove programs but it is not able to find the uninstall file. What now?

I don't know about all printers, but HP usally puts and unistall on the cd that came with it.

Boot into safe mode and delete the printer. McAfee might be more of a challenge. See if it comes up within safe mode for you to delete. You may have to search your registry to get rid of McAfee. The printer you should be able to get rid of in safe mode. Jason Wichman

From the Compatibility Upgrade Report.

"Before you upgrade to Windows XP, you should remove any incompatible programs if you can. After the upgrade, uninstall for these programs might not work."

If you don't want to mess with the registry getting rid of Mcafee it might be easier for you to uninstall XP and revert back to 98. Do all your uninstalls in 98 then reload XP again. (Run the Compatibility checking program). You might not have this option if you have changed your file system from Fat32 to NTFS.
