Hi

It seems rather odd and puzzling situation

I am trying to install the second oracle CD for installation but I cannot umount the cd that is already in the driver so what should I do? I can't even open the CD driver too.

# umount /mnt/cdrom
umount: 0506-349 Cannot unmount /dev/cd0: The requested resource is busy.
#

Any suggestions many thanks

Cheers

Hi

I have figured it out it is cos I was running the CD within the cdrom filesystem i.e. /mnt/cdrom. How do I run it from another filesystem i.e. /opt/oracle to run Oracle Universal Installer from /mnt/cdrom filesystem?

Thanks

KOG

Hi,

I had the same problem, cd'ing into the /mnt/cdrom/oracle directory and then launching installer program. Instead, try re-run it from your home directory (for example), specifying the whole path to the installer.

Hi nwardez,

What command do I use to run it from another path to the installer i.e. like run etc?

Cheers

Oops, seems to be 2 fast for me ... (takes a long time, writing with only one finger :)

The command will probably just be the full path to the installer, possibly preceded by a . (period/full stop)

I don't really see how this might help, given that you're still accessing the filesystem on the CD. A better bet might be to copy the installer to another filesystem and run it from there? HTH.

Oh, my god, I'll soon need ViaVoice instead of a keyboard ...

So, you're in your home directory, and you type "/mnt/cdrom/oracle8i/runInstaller" (try to suppress oracle8i in this path if it doesn't work, I only have a Solaris version next to me and I'm not sure it's exactly the same as Aix one)

My collegue encoured th problem few hours ago.
It was just because he had abnother aixterm open on mount point .
Be sure there no other process accessing /mnt/cdrom with command :
fuser /mnt/cdrom

Many thanks for the all the inputs, I am still struggling

I am now in /opt/oracle directory and would like to run runInstaller on /mnt/cdrom filesystem how do I do that?

$ ./mnt/cdrom/runInstaller?

It failed, is there a similar command like run on AIX?

Just remove the . at the beginning of your command line

(have a look at doc/relnotes.html, it's a known issue in the installation procedure)

It worked many thanks, it is amazing how much you learn from little things !

Cheers
