CANNOT TYPE IN TEXT BOX-MICROSOFT WORD

Using Office 2000 Word.
For the first time I have inserted a text box in my word doc but can't type in it. The cursor sits there and blinks but can't type into it. I am in the print layout view and my options in the tools menu are set to enable click and type.

As I type the cursor disappears and then re-appears when I stop typing not having moved or printed.

Tools, Options, Print ---> check Drawing Objects

also make sure Tools, Options, View, Drawings is checked.
