cannot share a partition across a network XPP to W7 1

I have set up subject-specific partitions on the 2nd HDD in my W7 machine and set two of them to share by right clicking on the partition in Explorer, choosing Advanced Sharing, clicking Share this folder, clicking on Permissions adding Everyone and giving Everyone full control.

Problem is, I cannot access any of the "shared" partitions from my XP Pro laptop. I can see the shared partition in My Computer in XP but I get the "You might not have permission... access denied" message.

* D: NTFS - Primary Partition
* G: NTFS - Logical Drive
* H: NTFS - Primary Partition
* J: FAT32 - Primary Partition

G & H are shared and I cannot access either. I hadn't changed my paging file from C yet so as an experiment I set the FAT partition to share and it works. I have since changed it back to not share and set the paging file to J

If I share a folder within a partition it works fine so my thinking is that I need to add another step to share the entire partition but I cannot think what it might be

This worked fine when I had the RC but since upgrading to W7Pro it has not worked.

Some points I have checked:
Both computers belong to the same workgroup
password protection is off (was off before I started the share)
the everyone group is set to full permission
neither the laptop nor the desktop have passwords enabled as I am a one man band

instead of having the EVERYONE group, set up a USER (preferrable with the same pswd) on both machines and give them full permissions....

Thanks Ben but, while that is a work around why, when a partition is shared is it not accessible (as it was in the RC version of W7)?

Check that the Everyone group permissions are set properly in the Security tab of each share.

The everyone group is set to full permission in all locations but somehow I don't think that I am looking in the right place or not going about the correct procedure. Here is a screen shot of the windows I went through to share the partitions

Again, check the Security tab for proper permissions for the Everyone group.

NTFS enforces security via Share permissions and NTFS permissions in a "most-restrictive" sense.

Glad you resolved it...

I was under the impression that you where in the correct place (share on the SOURCE PC) and that it did not function correctly with the Everyone Grp...

now if you use WiFi to connect from the laptop to the Desktop, then I would suggest you do not leave the Everyone Grp full access on any share, but rather set up a user on both PC's, as a further deterrent in gaining access to your Data...

once they gain access to your network anyone could delete, format those shares...
