Cannot set permissions for the files, ".htaccess & .htpassword"

I'm having a problem with setting permissions for the following files when they're placed on a Server running Linux:

.htaccess
.htpassword

I don't know if it's a Linux related issue, but I never had this problem when I used a UNIX server as my Web Server?

I'm able to transfer these files successfully to the Web Server but once there, I cannot see them. Since I cannot see the files, I cannot set permissions because I'm only connected to the Server through an FTP connection and cannot CHMOD them.

Telnet is not an option for me to use, so I basically need to achieve this using FTP. I'm running "Windows 2000 Pro" and it's native FTP program to transfer the files.

Any suggestions?

Well, I would suggest using an FTP client other than the windoze default.

Check out ws-ftp, cuteftp or any of the others, most will do exactly what you require, and graphically.

Yes try ws-ftp or cuteftp clients.

I have the Professional version of WS-FTP. I also tried to use the command &quot;ls -lt&quot; in the empty box bellow the MKDIR button, still no luck. After running that command, I could not see any files. This is really weird.

1-locally name the file something like file.htaccess

2-then upload.

the reason you wont see the .htaccess is beacuse is hidden. all &quot;dot extension &quot; files are hidden

3-now that you have file.htaccess in the server change the file permisions to whatever you want

4-rename the file to .htaccess.

5- it vanishes! for it is now hidden

6- take two pills now and call me on the morning
