Cannot see text in Word Art result

I'm using Word 2003 on a P4, 2.2G and 1GB ram
When I try using Word Art I go through the process of choosing the style etc. and when I click the last OK I get an empty box which tells me there is no fill color specified. When I click on Format, the Word Art menu option is greyed out. I can't find any place in Word that gives me any options / settings with respect to Word Art. Has anyone got any ideas?

This sounds like an incomplete or faulty install to me. Have you tried uninstall and reinstall, ensuring a complete install?

It did work earlier this month but that was the conclusion I was coming to as well.

Go to Tools, Customize, Toolbars Tab, click on the text for "Word Art" (Not on the checkbox), click Reset.

I would try deleting/renaming normal.dot

If you do't have any macros, custom styles or such, I would just delete it
