Cannot Renew IP Address 1

When I go into CMD: IPCONFIG/RENEW, the following message appears:

The following error occurred when renewing adapter local area connection. An interal error occurred. Disconnect and Reconnect network interface or reboot.

I am at a loss at what to do. Could someone please shed some light.

Start with a rebuilding of your Winsock stack. The utility discussed in this FAQ works perfectly well for Windows 2000: faq779-4625

If winsock fix doesn't cure the problem then remove the adapter, reboot and let it reinstall.

I ran the winsockfix and still cannot renew ip address. When I open internet explorer, the following appears below: res://c:\winnt\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.html

Does this mean anything?
