When I place an eps file (which I created in Illustrator 7.0) into Pagemaker 6.5 .... an opaque white box surrounds the graphic; which obscures the underlying Pagemaker graphics. (This is a bad thing).

How can I fix it so the "white box" is "transparent", thus allowing me to see the underlying Pagemaker graphics?

I do not have this problem when placing an .ai file in Pagemaker; however...my printing vendor requires that I use an eps file. This is using Windows

An eps has always a white surrounding box, it is impossible to set the transparency.

What you can do is send the eps to the background.

If there are still problems with the white box, you could make the other graphics also in Illustrator and put them in the same file with your other illustrator, thus exporting them from illustrator as one file.

1) open illustrator file
2) select all, find bounding box put fill color to none.
3) save as 6.0

4) If all else fails rasterize file in photoshop with
clipping path

Sometimes a dirty trick helps to make Illustrator EPS in PM visible:
Apply rotation 0.01° or any small value. The necessity is
obviously a program bug. I am not sure, whether this will help
here, but in any other case .... ----G.Hoffmann
