I have created a large document in Word 97 and somehow (I've no idea how) a horizontal line has appeared at about 1/2 inch from the bottom of every page stretching all the way across the page.

I've tried looking at the Footer but I can't highlight the line or delete it from there although it goes right through the middle of the Footer area (it also stretches outside the footer box).

I've also tried copying and pasting the document contents into a new doc but the line follows.

Any ideas how I get rid of this.

Is it a border?
Open the footer.
Click in the para with the line.
Choose Format - Borders.
Click on the None button and choose OK.
