The HP Deskjet 5650 is designed to allow the user to remove a cartridge only at appropriate times, e.g. not while it is printing.

Panels beneath the cartridges are set in a position so close to the cartridges that they cannot be taken out. In principle, when it is OK to remove the cartridges, the panels are shifted to a lower position so they can be pulled out.

Now mine has the problem that the panels move out of the way at arbitrary times, and usually prevent me from taking the <expletive deleted> cartridges out.

Questions for HP geniuses:

(1) What situations are supposed to cause the cartridges to be removable?

(2) How can I get my printer to behalf normally?

I'm close to throwing it out and getting another brand.

Many thanks

i dont know if i understood the question correctly.. im a confused man =)

did the cartridge cradle get stuck?

if that is the case, close the top cover, unplug the power supply from the outlet, reconnect the printer to power..

this would power cycle the printer and move the cradle into position

well you shouldnt do this.. but if you lift the carrige up (while swearing loudly) sometimes you can pop it up off the track without breaking anything....

swap the carts. and then press it back down until it pops back down onto the track...

But before doing that.. I would try the unplug method.. I've seen many times with deskjets where they just need to sit unplugged for a bit to get over their hissy fit.

gl!

After turning on your printer, and while the carriage is moving, simply unplug it. This will allow you to freely slide the carriage into whatever position you need, so that you can remove the cartridges. Have a nice day!!!

.....if my memory serves me correctly the 5650 has a "loading/unloading" zone off to the right.. and you cannot remove cart's along the printing plane..

yes/no?

I don't know for sure. I'm just going with knowledge from different stinkjets...Have a nice day!!!
