Hello All,

I'm using windows 2008 R2,networker 7.6 with adic i2000.
i'm trying to recognize the NDMP drives without success.
I've been tried to run jbconfig and this is the error i got:
What kind of Jukebox are you configuring? [1] 3
Enter NDMP Tape Server name: ? xxx01
Enter NDMP user name: ? root
Enter on NDMP password (characters will not be echoed):

Communicating to devices on NDMP Server 'xxx01', this may take a while...
14484:jbconfig: Scanning SCSI buses; this may take a while ...
14486:jbconfig:
There appear to be no SCSI jukeboxes connected to this system.
This could mean the SCSI jukebox(es) are not connected to the system,
cannot be seen (pending a reboot) or have already been configured.
14487:jbconfig: On Windows Systems, this could mean that the SCSI jukebox(es) ar
e
enabled for Microsoft Removable Storage.

Please rerun the program after making the necessary changes.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Lior.

on which system did you install the ndmp tapeserver Software ?

I've been installed the NDMP on netapp system.
This worked on windows 2003, but now it doesn't.

Please advise.

Thanks, Lior.

ndmp is always enabled on a netApp !
To my knowledge you have 2 methods of backing up your netapp using ndmp :
1. All devices are only known by traditional networker storage nodes, the ndmp datastream is send via network to the storage nodes which makes a ndmp backup to a non ndmp device.
2. connect the tapes to the netapp filer and install a Networker ndmp tapeserver. I think this ndmp tapeserver is only supported on windows2003 and linux.
So check this on powerlink.
I usually use the first method, this leads to backup rates of up to 70 MBytes/sec and netapp controller.

so what are you saying is to return to windows 2003?

or how can i configure the first method you have been mentioned above?

Thanks, Lior.

How to make NDMP Bacjaup to non ndmp device :
You need a networker ndmp connection license.

Create a networker client with the dns name of your Netappcontroller using the nmc.
select the right q-tree for a saveset, e.g. /vol/data
On the register "Apps&Modules" you give the root account and password of your netapp.If you use a different user sometimes ndmp might not work despite all rights are set to correct values.
The backup_command is nsrndmp_save -MT dump
check the checkbox "NDMP".
Select an unique array name. If you haver two controllers in your netapp, each has a different dns name. The array name is used to decide if they are representing the same netApp filer.
The license is bound to the array not to the controlleer.

The Application information attribute has to be set to :

Hist=yes
Extract_ACL=y
DIRECT=y
UPDATE=y

The last value is needed for differential Backups.
NDMP does not suppoert incr backups. But if you use the networker levels right you can minimize the amount of backup data.

Repeat this for a second netapp controller if necesarry.
Now put your client(s) in a group and select the right pool to use. Thats it.
