I am running MXeIII with 11.0.2.66. I have a 5340 that has some float key configured and working OK. I added a non-prime number to the phone, setting the line type the same as the the others (Key system). But when I try to program the phone to make it float, I get the following error message "An error has occurred. The key change could not be saved."

I tried removing and re-adding floating for other lines with no problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, John

What key number are you using?

Here is a snippet from the config. Key 3 will float. Key 5 will not float. Both of these numbers were created on this set by assigning them to the buttons.

1022 6 Ngoc 2 Key System 2*1222 Delay Ring Cont Not Assigned
1022 7 Not Assigned Not Assigned

I search based on the wording of this error with no luck.

The purpose of float keys is to make keys from page 2 or 3 viewable on the 1st page

Making either key 3 or key 5 as float keys is without purpose in my mind

Can you explain why you want to do this?

Well, in this case it was to testing a customer config in our lab system. But in real life, I thought it was so that if the user happened to be looking at any other page, then they would bebenit from the float feature. As far as I can see the float feature does not function differently if you happen to be looking at the page where the key is visible. Also - I would not be able to offer an explanation to a customer as to the why one key works differently from the other - does not instill confidence.

Think the feature comes from supporting Mitel trading consoles. Its pretty common in a equity trading enviroments to have a phone/console with pages and pages of ring down circuits, hoot and hollers etc. Because they can never see all the buttons at once, the trading system manufactures came up with "float keys" so that a line ringing on a hidden page appears at the top of the console so it can be answered. I think this is what Mitel is trying to duplicate. Never programmed a float key my self.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

To LoopyLou - absolutely correct - that is the customer's application. My problem is on one phone in my lab where I am testing customer conigs - in this case one key on a phone will not float.

I was hoping the error: "An error has occurred. The key change could not be saved." would ring a bell with someone re the root cause.

Regards, John
