Having problems with printer mapping/detection on a Windows 98 client. None of the Q articles published by MS seem to address this. Does anyone know a workaround? It does not see the local printer and also if I try to add a printer, it does not see the TS session I am on to choose that port.

Not sure if this will help but this is what I had to do...I had the same problem with an HP Deskjet printer (Don't remember the exact model #) but lets just say it was an HP deskjet 895cse...I installed the printer on both Win2k TS and the Win98 clients...No matter what I tried I couldn't get the printers to auto connect when signing on to T.S.

I solved the problem by installing an HP deskjet 810 print driver on both server and computer. For some reason the some of the HP print drivers have this problem. Try installing an older version of the print driver and see if this help correct the problem.

ShayneK,

That sounds a little closer to my issue. The only thing is, that it is setup already and works for 2K clients, are you suggesting that I try to use an older printer driver on the server and also the clients?

Actually Lets go back to using the HP 895cse as an example. Win2k workstations had no problem using the driver but my win98 machines did. I left the 895cse on the TS and also added an HP 810c driver to the TS. Then on the Win98 clients I removed the 895cse and installed the 810c. This way the win2k clients used the 895cse and the win98 clients used the 810c. Try it to see if it works for you. Let me know!!

I will give it a shot Shayne. Do you have any suggestions for substituting specific HP Laserjet Drivers? I think we have mainly LJ 1100s or 1200s.

This may sound strange but before you go to all the effort of trying that, just try installing a Laserjet 4 Plus on the workstation that has the printer on it's LPT1: Try printing just to make sure everything prints correctly. If it does, try connecting to the Terminal Server and see if the Printer has now been installed on the server. I'll look into the specific driver for the LJ1100 and 1200 but the Laserjet 4 plus driver hasn't let me down before.

Let me know!!

pingthis,

When you installed the Local HP Printers did you install the printers by using an installation CD that came with the printer? or by downloading the drivers from HP?
