Hello,
This machine in question has MS Office on Windows 98. We keep downloading software from the internet. Recently, we haven't been able to open MS Word 2000. Later we get a message saying "System Dangerously Low on Resources. Shutdown one or more of your programs" - something like this.

We have re-installed MS Office but we get the same error. Please let us know how to fix this.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
Louis

Hi Louis,

How much free space is there on you're HD?
Is you're tempfolder full?

Have you already trown away Normal.dot?
(In application data under you're username in the template folder)

Somthing in general:
It's never a good idea to run a higher version of Office on a lower OS! (doesn't mean it doesn't work)

See Yah!

Your comment "we keep downloading software from the internet" might be the key. Downloaded software can be "loaded"...with bugs, that is. You may be getting overloaded startup from spyware, etc. Lack of resource space can mean you have a lot of junk running. Go to Start/Run/msconfig and limit your startup files to those essentail. You can trun Office 2000 with Windows 98 (tho XP is a BIG improvement). You might try loading Word from Windows safe mode (no stuff loaded).

Also -- I would recommend downloading/installing/running a program called "SpyBot - Search & Destroy". This will go out and remove any "spyware" or "adware" that may be eating up your system resources. It is a free utility - go to Google & type in "Spybot". It is a great program and I highly recommend running it no less than a couple of times a month (depending on how much you "surf" the net.

Your Word template document has become corrupted.

Do a search for "Normal.dot" and rename it to "Normal.old".

This will rewrite the Word template. Word should open correctly.

Thanks everyone for your response!!! I renamed the normal.dot file to something else and I was able to open it. We've been using word 2000 on Win 98 for the last 4 years; I guess it time to upgrade it....

BTW Spybot is great and we've been using it for for a couple of months - AND IT's FREE! WOW!
