Cannot open Install.log

Hi,
my XP HE is refusing to uninstall a lot of programs with the above error.
The Install.log is in the right place and contains all the correct entries, even re-installing the prog over the top fails to help.
I think my MSI installer is screwed, as it only appears to be these programs i cannot un-install.
I really don't want to re-install Xp so any help would be appreciated.

Yes i have....is there a way to update the MSI installer or is it program specific?

The MSI installer is from MS. The MSI file itself from the Product. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

This is another foulup in lang.organising from MS about "long" file names and 8.3 names. You've probably recently taken the tip to disable 8,3 in the registry and this is one side effect. It needs fixing or instability sets in where your user temp folder (already looking like enigmaco.~de, no?) starts to annoy and you delete a messy temp folder one day. Then the SFC rescans start... and then re-installs...
