Cannot not connect to email with Outlook 2007

I was trying to setup an email account with outlook 2007 but it fails to connect to the server, even when i manually input pop3/smpt settings for my email account.

I'm sure the problem is with outlook because i downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and set up my email account without any problems.

Why is outlook failing to connect to the server?

side note: not planning on using outlook since Thunderbird is working fine but I would still like to know the answer to this problem.

Might help if you include the errors and, if it's an ISP server, what ISP?

when i type in my info and let outlook configure the email server settings, i don't get any error messages except for an 'X' next to 'log on to server'.

when i manually setup the account and then try to connect to my email i get the following message:

Task 'myemail@hotmail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108_: 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

For Hotmail, you need to tell it that it's a Hotmail account... maybe this will help:

Since Hotmail capabilities are not built into Outlook 2007 (and it doesn't use a pop3 server), install the hotmail connector
