I am trying to get 2 computers to read each other. First one has no problem but I get the following error message with the second.

The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred. Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

I had this problem a few years ago and have done all that was suggested then including altering the IRPStackSize size on both computers but this time no success. Cannot think of anything else to try.

I had already done the increases. When I go into the map network it shows the other computer and its drives but will not allow access via the network. I do have access permission on both computer drives.

easiest way to gain access, is to create a user on both machines with the exact same password...

making sure that both PC's are in the SAME workgroup (needless to say also in the same network (IP range))...

and make sure that on the Windows 7 machine, that HOMEGROUP is disabled...

also, for testing purposes only, uninstall any AV software (disabling may not be enough) as well as any third party firewall, as these can cause the same issue you are reporting...

Are both machines XP?

Did you increase any Stack Size by too much?

I tried what you both suggested but no good. Both machines are XP Pro. I have altered the Stack Size hight, low and in between but even that has no affect.

sorry, to hear that nothing helped...

and sorry, I was, for some reason, under the impression that one was a Windows7 box...

I've never come across that error message myself...

I am sloshing my gray matter further, perhaps I'll come up with something...

Can you try "Safe Mode with Networking", or isolate some of the possibly interfering applications?

Are there any clues in the Event Viewer?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Mapping.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Try it first by not checking either box (this will run it in a Read-only mode) to see if it flags any hard drive or file problems. If it does, restart it by ticking both boxes, and rerun it to allow it to attempt to fix any found problems.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

BagBigBen you are partly right. The computer that can see the other has 2 hard drives. One with Windows 7 the other XP. You may remember that you helped me with others as I had HD problems. I use XP as I am only trying W7 which can also access the other computer.

linney. I tried some of the things you suggested but no good. The In-place on MS site did say that I would have to re-install some of my other software so I did not do that. As I had trouble with the other computer for a few months, I do not know when the access issue started with the problem computer so cannot do a system resort. The Event Viewer do not show any problems.

I do not understand why the map can see the other computer and the HD but will not accept the link.

Moveit, have you tried to map the the drive using the IP or by just navigating to said share?

so instead of using \\server\share (or using the navigation menu), use (enter the path) \\IP of computer\share to map the share...

I would do the following, just to rule out winsock or TCP/IP setting corruption, open a CMD window (DOS box) and enter:

netsh winsock reset catalog
(this will reset the winsocks)

netsh int ip reset
(this will reset the IP settings)

also could you post the output of IPCONFIG /ALL from both PC's, just to make sure that all settings are correct...

BadBigBen - Tried IP connection but just get message Drive could not be mapped because no network found.

Did both resets. When I did the config / all I could not get the file to open to copy here. Is it possible I did something wrong as when I tried to open it I was told it was in use.

Have you tried creating and then testing with another user on the problem machine?

As far as the repair install is concerned you will only have to reinstall Windows Updates, in 99.9999% of cases data and programs are not removed.

There is also a clean install to consider but that will take you back to "day one" and all unsaved data would be lost.

Have you tried creating and then testing with another user on the problem machine?"

This has worked for me a few times when I was pulling my hair out and there didn't seem to be a GOOD reason why one machine couldn't connect to another.

Created a new user but get the same original error message.

Are you being blocked by a firewall/anti virus etc?

Moveit,

as to the ipconfig, do the following:

1. open a DOSBOX (CMD)
2. type the command: IPCONFIG /ALL
3. once done, right click the CMD window, then select MARK ALL (the window should now turn white), then do [CTRL]&[C] (the copy command).
4. on the desktop, create a TXT file, there do either [CTRL]&[V] or right click and paste...

that's basically it...

@trvlr1,

been there, done that... ;-)

I see you mention Nvidia, did you see my last post?

Hi linney - I looked at the link you gave. Except for the video card everything else is built into the motherboard which is an Asus. Before I had to change the HD on the Maxi computer, the Midi had no difficulties reading the Maxi HDs. I would have thought that as all the drivers are the same as before then it should still read the computer.
