Cannot logon, strange error message

I have a new Lenovo M58P. I used the product restore disks that came with it to load XP Pro.
Every so often (maybe a few hours or a few days), I cannot logon to the PC. I get the following error:
"Error connecting to an existing session for Administrator (Id0). A device attached to the system is not functioning"
I have to power off the PC and power on. I am then able to log back on. Trouble is, this PC is running a critical Oracle app and needs to be up all the time.
Any ideas anyone ? Thanks.

Is anyone connected to the machine already via RDP or are you trying to connect via RDP???

I must tell you that you should NOT be running any application (Oracle or otherwise, critical or otherwise) on a PC. I mean, I guess you CAN, but a machine with redundant drives/RAID is just about required for a server which is (sounds like) what you have made this IBM into.

Do you have fast user switching enabled on that PC?
If so, disable it to ensure you don't have admin logged on in the background.

Is the Oracle or other app running as Administrator?
If so then try keeping the admin logged on, and if security is a concern lock the desktop with a password.

I'm thinking your app may have a memory leak or other problem making it impossible to connect to the ongoing admin session. While I agree with goombawaho that XP is not the best platform for a db server, the same has been said of any Windows OS, server or otherwise. Unjustifiably, I agree, but there are more stable platforms.

I would be inclined to monitor resource usage on that machine to see what is happening.

Thank you both for these interesting posts.
I was using RDP. I have now disabled it and will walk to the PC from now on.
I was not using fast user switching but I was wondering whether the machine was using more and more memory until it crashed. I am now monitoring memory usage using perfmon and task manager.
Time will tell ...
I am aware that XP is not the ideal OS for this senario but this PC is a Gateway for a customers orders. The system was supplied by the customer and XP was specified by them.

I would stress to them in no uncertain terms that they are running their IT applications in a manner inconsistent with any level of service other than "best effort" considering the hardware and software platforms in use.
