Cannot Load ProtectedMode Switch(PMSWITCH)

Hello,

I have this error when I try to load "btrieve". This Pc is running Windows XP PRo SP1.

The command line is : x:\taxe\gen\btrieve /f:120 /M:128 /p:6144 /T:x:\taxe\gen\TP.TRN > NUL

I get this error when typing this command : Cannot Load Protected Mode Switch (PMSWITCH)

I am running Btrieve client v6.15.925.

Can someone help me solve this problem?

Sounds like you've got another program that's loading into Protected mode. Either that or PMSWITCH.EXE isn't in the same directory as Btrieve.exe.
One suggestion, try a current version of Btrieve, it's called Pervasive now, from

http://www.pervasive.com.

Btrieve 6.15.925 was released in 1995. It's almost 11 years old and was never designed, tested, or even supported on WinXP.

Btrieve 6.15 has issues in XP service pack 1 (Home or Pro), after receiving the latest updates from the Microsoft update site. In our experience, (and this has been quite a few instances over the past 12months )... the problem has been sorted by simply updating to service pack 2. We discovered this by accident. I cannot give a guarantee, but we have been able to rescue at least 6 of our clients this way.
