I have the following problem:
BTRIEVE and PMSWITCH, plus the EXE file resides on a server. When I doubleclick the EXE file, the application starts and runs accordingly.

When I make a shortcut on my desktop (Windows 2000 Pro) and then start the application.
I get these messages:
Cannot auto-load PMSWITCH.
An earlier version of BTRIEVE or DOS Requester is already loaded.

The application seem to start, but it doesn't work accordingly.
What is going on?
Thank you

Sounds like you've got multiple versions of Btrieve on the machine. BTRIEVE.EXE and PMSWITCH.EXE are Btrieve 6.15.
What version of Btrieve are you trying to use?

On the server it's BTRIEVE 6.15.925, I believe. Since doubleclicking the exe file on the server will start up the application properly, and not when I create a shortcut on a workstation. Does that mean I might have a different version of BTRIEVE on the workstation? If so, how can I found out? I did some searches, looked up some .dll files that were mentioned in this forum.

Thanks.

Yes. I would say you have multiple versions on the workstation. When you get the error, does it just drop you to a command prompt? If so, type "BUTIL -VER" (without the quotes). That should tell you what version of Btrieve is being loaded.
I would check for BTRIEVE.EXE, BREQNT.EXE, BREQUEST.EXE as the starting points. If this is a Windows app, I would check for WBTRV7.DLL and WBTRCALL.DLL.
