I cannot load Windows XP on to a pc that I am building. The process runs through ok until I get to the setup screen and then I get an blue screen error page 'PFN_LIST_CORRUPT' telling me that I have to check all the hardware.

Is this a hardware issue or a problem with the XP cd?

If you are setting up on RAID somewhere in the forums
someone said to disable APIC in bios.

Memory or CD drive problem.

Try to re-sit the memory. (You can also replace it).
Use a different CD drive.

first of all verify the required hardware for xp. if it is ok then it might be problem with the OS cd. or may be problem with the processor or RAM. So check it our fiest.

Try to install WinXP with only the Videocard inserted in the mobo. If that works and XP is installed add one piece of hardware in at the time. When the system then crashes you know that the last hardware item is bad er needs a good driver.

XP is a lot more sensitive to hardware compatibility. You may want to insure all your devices and software are actually XP Compatible. Poor memory quality can be to blame. Sometimes the motherboard just needs a specific version of BIOS to work properly if you use DDR400 memory.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

M$ say:
This error is typically caused by drivers passing bad memory descriptor lists. For example, a driver might have called MmUnlockPages twice with the same list.

If a kernel debugger is available, examine the stack trace.

So this could also be a driver issue..

If you have installed Nvidia's newest 52.16
there is reported lots of strange effects with this one.
With some it's okay and with many others resets/overheating of vid.card freeze etc.
If you have this one go back to 45.23 and stick with it for awhile .

Sorry i guess you haven't installed anything yet .
If you have not succeded any logins on the installation yet.
Try using different mem.slots ,and run the bios in safe settings ,(disable apic) .

I disabled APIC in BIOS and replaced the IDE cable to an 80-pin. Now I am receiving the error:
C0000221 - hard error

I have replaced the RAM also and I am still getting the same error. I also tried installing W98 but getting the same error. Any more ideas???

Have a look here:

Have you tried like I said before to install windows with only the video card inserted onto the mobo ?
Remove modem, soundcard, firewire card etc. and just leave the video card on the mobo.
Now try to reinstall windows.
Also set your BIOS settings to "Load fail/safe settings" and retry.

I replaced the RAM with a new RAM this time and it is now working fine. The last RAM I replaced was not compatible.

Thank you everyone for you help.
I thinktha combination of the RAM being replaced and disabling the APIC in BIOS has resolved the problem
