Help! I am having trouble joining XP workstations to a Windows 2003 domain. The XP workstations are at a remote site connected to corporate using Sonicwall site2site vpn tunnels. I am able ping both directions through IP and Name. Here is the error message I am getting:

The domain name cig might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.
If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration.
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain cig:
The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cig
Common causes of this error include the following:
- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.
- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone: cig . (the root zone)

You have a DNS issue. In the VPN connection, configure the TCP/IP settinds and specify your DNS server in there.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will look at the SOnicwall VPN settings today. Off the top of my head, I can't remember a field for DNS settings in the VPN configuration.

It will be there under the settings of TCP/IP configuration. Any VPN will give you the choice of using a static or dynamic address. As part of that configuration you can specify the DNS servers.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Ahhh, I see that the internal DNS server was not added in the DHCP settings, only the ISP server. I went ahead and added. I will test and let you guys know.
