Some armchair tech here at work has uninstalled the "Client for Microsoft Networks" in the properties of the Local Area Network connection and when I go to "Install" and then "Add" it does not show up (only Client for Netware which has already been uninstalled). The RPC service is present and running (Auto) but the Workstation and RPC "Locator" service are missing. Understable since I believe the Client is what installs them. I put a Windows XP Pro CD in the drive but the computer does not seem to know what .inf or .sys file installs the client again and neither do I. Anyone know the name of the setup file I should be looking for or maybe an easier way to reinstall the Microsoft Network Client?

Thanks Much for any assistance. Dave

Just tossing this one in blindly, sfc /scannow. Not 100% sure if it checks the network side but if it does it is a quick easy fix.
If not, worst case scenario to bring it back would be a Windows Repair Install.

Learning - A never ending quest for knowledge usually attained by being thrown in a situation and told to fix it NOW.

seems as though my WinXP CD is a SP2 copy. I will ned to get my hands on SP3 CD before I can proceed. I may just reimage the machine. It may end up being less hassle. This is a shared machine for their department so there should be nothing to copy over and no profiles to worry about.

Thanks

You could also uninstall and reinstall the network card which should automatically add the field back in again.
