Hi,

I've been trying to import a foxpro database , which I
already set up in the ODBC Manager and I still can't
import the database. Here's the error I got:

Error Message
Record is too large. (Error 3047)
This error occurs when you enter data into the record -
not when you define the table structure. Redefine the
table by making some fields shorter, removing unneeded
fields, or moving some fields to other tables.

Also, the thing about .dbf file is that I don't have
access to modify the fields to make it smaller. Is there
a way to import .dbf files without this error message?
Thanks in advance.

Nip,
Is this a VFP database table, VFP free table or FP 2.x table? What is the version of the VFP ODBC driver you are using? How many fields does this table have? Any chance it's actually a table built by Clipper? (They didn't have a column limit of 255.)

Yes, this is a VFP database table. The version of the ODBC driver is 6.01 (XP Pro machine.) There are 48 fields and 4 of them are memo fields.

Well the last version is 6.1.8629.1 - available at and I'm not sure what the problem might be. About the only possible problem, might be the memo fields if they have too much data for Access to handle. I believe Access memos are limited to 64,000 characters, where theoretically VFP could handle a single memo field with almost 2gb.

Do you have a version of VFP avaiable to open this table to see if it has any problems? Was it created in VFP 7.0? The ODBC drivers can't handle some of the new Database events and functions. In this case you'll need to use the new OLE DB provider - unfortunately there is no download available, it only comes with VFP 7.0 and can only be distributed with a VFP 7.0 app.
