I've got two bizarre problems on Internet Explorer that are driving me absolutely nuts.

Intermittently, I am unable to get to any of the Google pages - google.com, .co.uk, you name it. I get the standard "Page cannot be displayed" error. I initially thought this was a DNS problem, but DNS is working fine, and there are no static entries in my HOSTS file. I can browse other sites fine, and it will suddenly just start working again for no apparent reason.

Secondly, and possibly related as it seems to occur at the same time, is starts display incorrectly, showing all the fonts as much larger than they should be.

I've even reinstalled my PC and the problem has come back. So I suspect it's either a piece of software that I'm using or my roaming profile...

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated!

This sounds sort of like the same problem I am having. See Nov. 1 post about background. My fonts are larger also.

I've intermittently seen problems with other sites, but Google is the main problem.

I had the same google.com problem. Solved it with IE6 SP1.
I don't have the technet problem with large fonts, but instead I have empty dropdown boxes on - knowledgebase search

Also had a problem with locking up Explorer when opening a link in a new window. fixed it with registering urlmon.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem as Pocket. I also have problems accessing google for some reason from time to time. This is the case when my font size have changed (also for non apparent reasons).

I never had this problem but since a few weeks this is the case.

Pocket, did you solve your problem and if so how ?

Regards,
Davidy

I'm not sure about the Google problem, but I just ran into the large font problem myself. After some digging and troubleshooting, I found out that IE for some reason had decided to change the encoding to Unicode. Easiest way to fix this: Go to View | Encoding and check Auto-Select. Or you could also choose Western European (Windows) as well.

Hope this helps
Chris

Thanks Chris,

I tried it, but it didn't work. The weird thing about the problem, is that sometimes it changes to large fonts, and sometimes it's ok. It changes back and forth for no reason.

Davidy,

Hmmmm... that's really strange... If you go to View, is the text size set to Medium?

Chris

Yes..

For some pages these larges fonts create problems, for others it doesn't.

In internet options, general, accessibility no tickbox is marked. All options are off.

Hi again,

I have the impression that I get the problem if I close and restart IE several times during the day. Suddenly the problem is there.

If I leave IE open, I have no problem at all ! I don't know if others have the same impression ?
