While I was going through some sound-files that I had downloaded, I clicked on one file to get an Active-X license to run it. Instead of the license I started getting file after file flashing by on my screen, so I immediately broke my connection. I then erased all the files that came in (between 15-20, "adult" oriented) using the MicroSoft Spyware beta program, Adaware, and Spybot. I ran my Antivirus program but got no hits on any viruses. One of the files I noticed while I was erasing was a re-naming program which would change your user name when you tried to log onto the internet. I think it was called "Slagent" and I erased it, also. But the next time I tried, I could not get on the internet. I re-ran the Spyware program and got a hit on the "Slagent" program again, and erased it again. I still have not been able to get on the internet since then. I run the Spyware programs every day, sometimes getting a hit on the "Slagent" program, which I then erase again, but I still cannot get on the internet at all. What can I do, and where do I look to do it, to get back on the internet and rid of this?

I would also suggest, downloading the following programs:

HiJackThis! -
Ewido Security Suite -
Run HJT and post log either here in this thread and let us comb through it or paste your log at for an online analysis, delete everything that is deemed as BAD...

check the following FAQs:

faq760-4866
FAQ608-4650 (read the part especially about LSP FIX, as that may seem to be your problem...)

both faq's give a good insight into battleing nasties out there....

"If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer..."

OK... I went to the FAQs and did everything, and in order, that they said. I couldn't run some of the programs they suggested (EWIDO, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard) due to my back-up computer here only has a 1.44 MB floppy to transfer the programs to my infected computer with. I will keep working on that, though.

I ran HJT and I tried an on-line-analysis, but I do not know how to find and delete the lines they found for me. So here is my HJT log:

You might also be able to make use of WinZip to save your downloaded files to floppies as it has the ability to span floppies?

This is from the WinZip help file.

Multiple Disk Spanning
WinZip® makes it easy to create Zip files that "span" multiple disks. This is useful if the files you are working with will not fit on one disk.

Creating spanned Zip files
To make a Zip file that spans multiple disks, simply create a new Zip file on a removable disk, then add files to the Zip as you normally would. If the disk fills during Add operation, you will be prompted for another disk. Simply insert the next disk and click the OK button.

Important: disk spanning is not available when adding files to an existing archive; it is only available while creating a new archive. Also note that you cannot add files to or remove files from a Zip file that spans disks. WinZip requires pre-formatted disks (you can format disks using My Computer or Windows Explorer).

Example:

To zip the files in your c:\data folder to a Zip file called A:\DATA.ZIP:

Start WinZip.
Drag and drop the c:\data folder from My Computer or Windows Explorer to the WinZip window.
In the Add dialog box, type the filename of the Zip file (A:\DATA.ZIP).
Click the Add button.
If more than one disk is needed, you will be prompted for additional disks.

Extracting from spanned Zip files
To extract files from a spanned Zip file, insert the last disk of the series and open the Zip file using WinZip; this will display the directory of the Zip file and allow you to extract the files. WinZip will prompt you for the disks as needed to complete the operation.

If the entry:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [mslagent] C:\WINDOWS\mslagent\mslagent.exe
continues to be there try boot into safe mode... rename mslagent.exe to mslagent.bak then reboot and you can then manually delete it... If all else fails "RESTORE" back to some day prior...

SomeWhere in Kansas Near Dodge City

I used the tip about WinZip to get the files larger than a single floppy downloaded to my computer and ran them. There were several things they found for me to delete. After cleaning up everything I ran HJT again and ran the log file from that through the HJT location for an analysis. There were another couple of lines I deleted from there. Also on a friend's suggestion I looked into my Security Center and from there turned off my MicroSoft Firewall. With all of those changes I was able to again get through and onto the internet. Thanks to everyone for the help. You were all invaluable in solving my problem.
