Dear all,

I am installing a new p5 55A with serial port login.
Serial port setting: 19200-8-N-1
55A FW SF240_320
no graphic card or HMC...

Everything was fine and i could install the AIX ML5 without problem. But afterward when AIX starts, whenever i get to:

Finished starting tcpip daemons.
Starting NFS services:
0513-059 The muxatmd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 241792.
0513-059 The biod Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 245914.
0513-059 The rpc.lockd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 209030.
Completed NFS services.
0513-059 The ctrmc Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 274568."

everything STOP after all this text.. there is no login prompt....

since it is a complete new system, i cannot change anything...

anyone know how to finx?
Thank you!!!!

Do you find any thing on the LED (which i think not as you reached to the point where nfs daemons started)?

how much memory allocated? This happens to me sometimes when my system running out of memory!

Is the system pingable from outside? did you try to telnet to the machine?

Regards,
Khalid

it is a new install system, so, nothing is set up yet.
therefore, it cannot be telnet from outside.

every light is normal ...

the system has 2-way 2.1Hz CPU and 16GB memory

When you say serial port login are you referring to the use of the vty (native S1, S2) ports (2) on the back of the system, as opposed to a 2 or 8 port asynchronous card? If you are using a vty it has limited functionality and I believe it is not enabled for login by default. You need to use the ASMI to configure/check this.

Also, I believe the pin outs on these ports are different, so if you are not using an IBM supplied cable, this could also be suspect.

The following is from an IBM document.

The serial ports S1 and S2, at the rear of the system, are only available if the system is not managed using a Hardware Management Console (HMC). In this case, the S1 and S2 ports support the attachment of serial console and modem.

If an HMC is connected, a virtual serial console is provided by the HMC (logical device vsa0 under AIX) and also a modem can be connected to the HMC. The S1 and S2 ports are not usable in this case.

If additional serial port functionality is needed, optional PCI adapters are available (PCI 8-port adapter FC 2943 or PCI 128-port adapter FC 2944).

SETTING BAUD RATE
On these tty baud rate is set to 19200. Changing baud rate using smitty has no effect. Baud rate should be changed using Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI).

USING MODEM
This ports can be used to connect modem but only for dialin and dialout no program transfer using uucp. Since flow control can't be set to RTS/CTS binary programs can't be uucpied, data should be uuencoded before transfer.
