Cannot Get Exclusive Access

I am running Windows 2000 and I tried to check my hard drive with Norton Disk Doctor (2002). I got the standard "cannot get exclusive access" message (or words to that effect) so I checked the "Fix Errors" to schedule a check on the next reboot.

Ever since, when I boot the computer, about 2/3 of the way in I get a black box similar to a DOS box that takes up half the boot screen and a message that reads in part:

The type of file system is NFTS.
Cannot open volume for direct access.

It then looks like it is checking the drive.

Is there any way to get rid of this??? I have tried booting to the console and running chkdsk c: /p. I have tried shutting down third party services. Any other suggestions??

I have searched both Symatec (Norton) and Microsoft and neither were much help. Their suggestions didn't solve the problem.

Thanks!

Erik

ErikRP,

Take a look at this thread thread616-439106 and then check the key in the registry.
