I am attempting to ftp using command line and via browser. When I connect via IE everything works just fine.

When I use command line, I get connected to the server but it never prompts for username or password. This same thing happens when I use ws_ftp client.

any advice?

are you trying to connect to the correct port? I know if you are trying to connect to the wrong port it may connect if the port is open but won't give you a log in option as I've managed it before.

(very useful, honest!)

So are you indicating that you are being prompted for an ID/password when FTPing through IE? If so, do you actually close the IE based FTP session prior to trying the command line?

I am not being prompted by the browser, I type the username and password into the address line.

I have no idea what port they are using. I assumed 21...

you can set the ftp port to anything, may be worth checking although if you are connecting with an ftp package ok probably not the issue. Just thought you may have saved the port in that package but forgot when trying to connect with the command line.
