- Win2003, Networker 7.2, Build 3.11
- ADIC 100 LTO, f/w 3.32.0002, 3 Drives

When attempting to label or inventory tape, Networker echos "Server \\server.domain.com: cannot find usable cleaning slot for drive '\\.\Tape_x_" Issue is same on all three drives.

After an inventory request the error message echos, however the tape is properly identified with the label and associated pool(if its an existing tape.) All labeling(s) are unsuccessful with the above message.

Networker correctly identifies slot 24 as a cleaning. All 3 drives were manually cleaned with a new tape. Both 2003 and ADIC boxes have been rebooted.

Logs on server are all related to the error message.
No backend changes have taken place.
Is this a slot, tape, f/w version, s/w verion issue?

Any help = appreciated.

Hi,

i had the same problem..you must set the cleaning usage per tape(slot) with this command

nsrjb -U[default cleanings] -j [name from your Libary in Networker] -S [Cleaning Slot]

If you manually cleanded the drive already, remove the "Clean" enty in the field of the device from networker gui (windows or unix ?)

Thank you.

I set cleaning usage per tape. however, emc recommended to keep the "Auto Cleaning" to "yes". After nsrjb, the cleaning tape is recognized in correct slot. when i try to take an inventory or label a tape, networker hangs. I turn of the "Auto Clean" feature and all is well.

My question/concern is with this setting off, am I completly disabling cleaning on the devices?

Thanks,

Denis

You have 2 ways to configure tape cleaning:
- library (hardware) controled
- networker (software) controled
Vendor often recommend internal cleaning; you can enable both, but in most cases it's not necessary. My experience (Networker/Windows, STK/HP library) is that Networker can do it well (only when it's usefull, and events are in media.log: cleaning and expired cleaning!)
So disable library cleaning, and enable Networker device cleaning.
Did you try "cleaning required=YES" before loading a tape?
