Hi,

I am getting a system cannot find the path specified when I try to connect iis 5.0 on my machine (Win 2k).

Originally I had another error which turned out to be a corrupted metabase. I solved this by renaming the Metabase.bin file and a new one was created when I restarted the machine.

Now - no more joy, either from IIS or searching the net.

Does anyone have any ideas that aren't reinstall Win 2K - please!

Hi,

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm having the same issue and so far no luck.

Thanks

yeah I did. Eventually I reinstalled Win 2K.

I don't know how much you know about this so forgive me if I am being patronising.

The metabase is a database of everything managed by IIS, virtual directories etc and their settings. Somehow mine became corrupt and the path was lost.

You can rename metabase.bin to metabase.bad and restart your machine. The theory is a new metabase will be created. This did not work for me as whatever had corrupted it did it again.

You can try uninstalling the IIS component and reinstalling it.

As a last resort check that your local area connection is enabled and if you have a personal firewall in place that it is not intefering.

When my troubleshooting had failed all of these tests I bit the bullet and did a reinstall as I had had no response from this post and could not find anything on the web.

Firmly gripping my wooden desk here but I have not had any trouble since.

Good luck,

I have the same problem on NT 4.0 IIS with NTOP. We only use our IIS for Outlook Web Access. Just wondering if I were to uninstall IIS and NTOP and then re-install them if that would fix the problem? Did you try just removing IIS?

By any chance, are you guys running retrospect or veritas backup for doing backups?

This little chestnut raised its head again, I see.

Looks like a real pain type bug that happens now and again, no know cure as far as I can tell.

The answer to both of questions, gignactw, is no. I did not try uninstalling IIS itself and only weekly cd rom burns for backup.

sorry,

gags
