I am having a problem which looks strange. I cannot access some web sites from a particular location. When I try to get to the web site, most especially from a link in a search engine I get the error message: Cannot find server or DNS error. I have the same problem with my web site but this was solved by adding the IP addresses to the local host file in windows.

I get on the net at home via kable connection. The incomming line is distributed via a hub to two PC's. One upstairs and one downstairs. I do not have a problem with the PC upstairs but when I connect to the net with my Laptop downstairs I get this error.

What is the problem. What baffles me the most is that it only happens mostly when I try to get to a site through a search engine and with some sites I gain access.

What should I do..this is frustrating me!!!

Can anybody HEEELP !!!

Thanks

Colours,

If I am reading correctly, at home you have 2 PCs connected via a hub. If thats true, then I have a question. Did you purchase another IP address from you ISP? I know with some cable companies they only provide 1. If you did purchase more than 1 IP from you ISP, there is an option on my cable systems that they have to change on your account. The option is MAX IPS=YES or NO. If you mentition to them about it, they usually know what you are referring too because some ISPs may have it setup differently.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jason,

Thanks a lot for the reply and help. Unfortunately i have only one IP address that is configured on the hub. I have always had access from the downstairs connection with my laptop until recently. Do you have any other suggestions??

Thanks

Wole

Are you sure you are not using a router instead of a hub? If you are simply using a hub then you cannot share your internet between two computers unless one of those PC's is acting as a proxy server.
