Help. I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but we cannot get *.exe files to download from our server. I have changed the permissions from script to none and back (because we're running .net) with no luck. I don't know what to do. Are we missing something?

Thanks!!!

Yes, in fact. The entire site works fine, except when you click a link in our Downloads section and attempt to download an EXE file. Any other download works fine. I get a little window with a big red circle and an X in it that says:

Internet Explorer cannot download FILE.exe from
Internet Explorer was unable to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

Have you looked at the IIS logs on the web server to see it has anything?

got it. i just deleted the site and then recreated it in IIS MMC. [smile] yay

Is the web site in question set to Execute executables?
Open the web site in question using Internet Information Services console. Click on the Home Directory tab and see if in here it says Execute Permissions are set to Scripts And Executables. If the answer to this is YES, then when you try to download an executable, the server is trying to run it!
Change this option to Scripts Only....

No no... I did all those things. The EASIEST thing to do (and the only thing that worked for me) is to open IIS MMC, delete the site (not the actual files, just the site), and recreate it. Now everything works fine.
