cannot delete .wav file

I have a big .wav file that i'm unable to delete. I've tried to copy, cut, open, rename and delete it but I'm unable to do so. When I right click the file it doesn't give me the usual drop down menu, instead it shows a drop down that has commands like Play-Open-Open With etc etc.

I've tried to delete it through the command prompt but to no avail, I've tried to use a 3rd party software called MoveOnBoot, which deletes a file on boot up in case another application is using it, but it only said the name was invalid.
Any ideas would be great the file is 681MB and i'd love to get rid of it.

Make sure the file is not read-only, etc. Use attrib command at a prompt ---

Go to a command prompt and navigate to the directory that contains the file you are looking to delete.

Ex. Start-Run-CMD(or command)
cd\temp (file is in the temp directory)
attrib big.wav (file named big.wav)
Notice if the file is marked read-only (R)

If so try : attrib -r big.wav

Hope this sheds some light.

i forgot I tried deleting it in safe mode also

hey ferntown,

what error msg did you get when you tried to delete it in dos?

I've found sometimes that if it's a particularly large file, it won't delete as it says it's been used by other applications - more often than not windows explorer.

If that's the case - go to task manager - stop the explorer.exe process. Then go to File-new task(Run)-cmd - then try and delete again from DOS.

Once done, to start explorer again - File-new task(run)-explorer. (or reboot)
