I am trying to delete registry keys from an uninstall version of Norton Antivirus and i keep getting access denied. I tried to make myself the owner of the keys but that did not work. It currently says that the key has no owner. I tried changing permissions and add the administrator as a user that has permissions and it still told me access denied. Also i did all this in safe mode. Is there a way to delete these keys ??

Thank you for your support

Adrian

I think you may have to stop the Norton service first, and then try to delete the key.

I am in safemode and that would not be started. Also i do not have norton installed at this time. I am just trying to remove these left over registry keys.

Have you tried changing permissions further up the hierarchy of the Registry in case they are being inherited and passed down to the key you are working on?

bcastner i am running what you gave me. I will post back with the results.

Please tell us how it sorts for you.
The Norton Suite of NortonWorks and Norton Internet Security have just clogged the internet with issues.

I think they are resolvable (my link above).
But guess what the last two pieces of software I let member linney install on my machine.

I had a guess that might help.

Best wishes, and try the screen cleaner linney invited. (It was the second to last piece of software I let him install on my machine).

Best wishes.

I know why it was happening now. What happend was we switched to a Domain from a workgroup environment. The registry keys were owned by a local user alone (no administrator just that user). If i would have logged on to that local user and uninstalled Norton or deleted the key it would have worked. I stumbled over the problem again but this time i found out what it was.

Just thought i should post this back for anyone having problems too.
