I called in a file that is flagged as missing 2 fonts. I cannot substitute them or delete them (there are 0 characters that use it). Is there any way to get rid of the font from the "preflight" menu? I tried everything I could think of. Usually, I just CHANGE them, but this time they do not exist and hence are not highlighted, but just show up in the startup. As a result, the whole book loses its pagination since this is the first file in the book. When I delete it from the book, everything is okay again.

No, there are no links or external files embedded--just text.

I would copy all text to a new file and see if the broken font comes with you. Sometimes there are errors like this when the font in question is in overflow text, a strange character, or the pasteboard. Often, it is in a paragraph/char style.

Each time I get stuck fonts like this, I restart indesign and then working in a copy of the file, delete all frames until the font is gone. If everything is deleted from the document (including paragraph/char styles) and the font still shows up, then the file is likely corrupt and you are saving future headaches by just copying the known good frames into a new Indesign file.

See the Adobe Indesign forum below for other solutions to folks who have had this issue.
