Cannot delete Office files while Word or Excel is open

User with XP Pro computer opens a Word or Excel file on the Windows 2000 file server, then CLOSES the file but leaves Word or Excel open, then goes to Windows Explorer and tries to delete the file. File does not delete - says user has it open. Close Word or Excel. Now file will delete.

Any thoughts?

I see another thread has started, thread68-590019 , under the title of "File is Locked, Opened for Editing By Another User." Hopefully someone has resolved this problem! We used to have Novell clients which had all kinds of caching and file locking tweaks that could easily be done from the client properties tabs. Now that we have only an MS server and all "tweaks" to the client are registry edits, I am at a loss for things to try.
