cannot contect to proxy server when in a vpn

Hi I have a pc connecting to a vpn but will not connect to the proxy server when connected I have set up to use the proxy when using dail up to vpn and set up the exception so it can still connect to the vpn it look like it being directed to the proxy but just say the url cannot be diplayed Please help This set up works on other pc connecting to the same vpn??

can the VPN client ping the proxy IP? if yes, can it ping the name?

I'm having the same kind of problem. I can ping the proxy IP & name but get the message that there's no answer. We are using an Actiontec DSL modem, and I have open the GRE port along with the tcp 1723 and others. Actiontec claims the VPN ports are already open by default, however I haven't been able to connect through the VPN since installing it. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks a lot.

Are you sure your proxy settings are correct?

Open IE
click Tools | Internet Options
select Connections tab
select the dial-up connection that is your VPN
click Settings
configure proxy settings specific to your VPN
