Hi guys,

I am having trouble accessing one of my machine's shares. The computer in question is running Windows XP Pro. I have not set a password on the share (could not find out how to!?), but still it asks me for a username and password when trying to access it from another computer. I cannot find a username/password that works.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Sam

In general, when XP asks you for a username and password it's because of one of 2 reasons.

1. XP doesn't know who you are - generally only a problem with simple file sharing disabled
2. Shares are set up incorrectly or not at all - there is a default administrative share (C$) that xp will assume that you're trying to access when it can't use any other shares (or when it doesn't know your username see #1).

Follow all the steps in the Simple File Sharing link above.
