Hi all,
I have typed a lot but I don't think the problem is as hard as it looks. I have a Linksys wireless router(WRT54G). I have had one computer running windows xp pro with a linksys wireless adapter(WMP54G) that has always connected up just fine. I also have a linksys wireless print server(WPS54GU2) that receives an IP no problem and I can print wirelessly just fine. Now for the problem. I have recently built another computer out of parts and acquired a D-Link wireless adapter (DWL-520)for it to connect to my little network wirelessly along with everything else. The problem is that I cannot get this computer that I built to connect. I'm running a 64 bit WEP. I will enter the network key and it will connect for about 30 seconds as soon as its turned on and then will lose its connection. It still sees the network and when I select the network and hit connect it just sits there unconnected. It will connect and disconnect for awhile and then eventually connect but will have an error saying it cannot obtain its ip address from the router and thats where it stops. I'm thinking that if I just get a Linksys adapter instead of the DLink it might work. Any help will be greatly appriciated.
Thanks
Terry

try to get the latest drivers for the network card. seems like the nic doesn't want to communicate with the ap.

CCNA, CCNP..partly ;)

. when you enter the WEP key, are you using a passphrase, or are you entering the actual key values? The passphrase generator is not standardized - a linksys passphrase is not the same as the actual key values generated by a D-link passphrase.

. be certain you have 802.1x authentication disabled in the wireless adapter settings, and in the properties of the Preferred Network identifying your WRT54G lan.

I am using the latest drivers and I am entering the acutal keys.

I am using the latest drivers and I am entering the WEP key itself. I agree that it sounds like the network card is just not communicating with the router properly.

Hey there all,
I just wanted to let everybody know that I fixed the problem and hope somebody else can use this to solve their's someday. What I did was go get another linksys wireless adapter WMP54G and put it in. Sure enough it just jumped right in there and started working great.
Thanks for all the help.
