This has just happened since last week. I don't know what has changed but I have INI'd the system twice already and it didn't fix the problem. When I type AX as I have in the year since I took over this pbx, instead of getting the Meridian Mail LogIn screen I get nothing. The cursor blinks on the page and nothing comes up. When I hit Cntrl - ] it comes back to the system prompt like it did before. But I cannot manage any voicemail until I get this fixed. I thought it was a setting problem with the terminal and have tried different settings there, but nothing has seemed to work. In ld 37 I have noticed the TTY port 8 is DSLBD. However, when I try to enable (ENL TTY 8), I get this below and the next time I list the stat tty, its showing DSBL again. This happens on the terminal and in Procomm Plus! Here is what I get in load 37:
.stat tty

TTY 0 : ENBL DES: TERMINAL
TTY 1 : ENBL DES: MODEM
TTY 2 : ENBL DES: CDR
TTY 3 : DSBL DES: temp
TTY 6 : ENBL DES: REMOTE
TTY 7 : ENBL DES: REMOTE
TTY 8 : DSBL
.enl tty 8

IOD315 9
.OK
Thanks in advance for your help!

Forgot to tell you:

Merdian Option 11C
Version 2111
Release 24
Issue 24+

Thanks,
Kendra

Look at thread 798-1213541. That has some good info for you.

Thanks for the quick reply and the reference to that post! I have tried the Cntrl R and the Cntrl W and powering off the terminal, and even hitting the Maint INT button a couple of times on Friday when we were down for the holiday.

I think the problem is somehow tied to the TTY 8 port being disabled. Because in LD 22 when I printed the ADAN (something else I found in the forums this weekend, Thanks Guys!) this is what I get for TTY 8:
ADAN TTY 8
TTY_TYPE LSL
CAB 00
CARD 10
PORT 0
DES
BPS 1200
BITL 8
STOP 1
PARY NONE
FLOWTYPE MAIL

I have searched the forums for days now, and I am really needing to get in and do some mailbox administration. The mail system is up and running currently, I just can't get into it via AX. Also, I have not found a cable yet that is labeled port 8. I have found the port 0 (terminal) and port 1(modem) cables and have switched them around for testing. And played with settings on the terminal. The speed is set to 2400 and that is what is on the card in the PBX. I've changed from VT520/420/320 emulation to VT100 emulation. None of this I have tried so far has worked. Oh, and today I took the system down unexpectedly :0 -- by disabling and re-enabling the AML in LD 48. That didn't work either. Any other ideas??

Have you had a Miran card fitted in the past year?. Have you tried entering "AX 8" (8 = Mail TTY port) The Mail tty port will always show disabled, unless the port is in use.

Another thing which causes problems, is if you use MAT or OTM via the PTY ports to access Meridian Mail. They will lock access onto Mail & you will have to do a INI to unlock the Mail TTY Port.

.stat tty

TTY 0 : ENBL DES: TERMINAL
TTY 1 : ENBL DES: MODEM
TTY 2 : ENBL DES: CDR
TTY 3 : DSBL DES: temp
TTY 6 : ENBL DES: REMOTE
TTY 7 : ENBL DES: REMOTE
TTY 8 : DSBL

Are your TTY ports 6 & 7 configured as PTY ports?

Hi Firebird! Thanks for your response.
I have tried AX 8, but as soon as I type AX, it will not allow me to type anything else. Its as if it is already going into the voicemail port. I have also let it sit there for several minutes thinking that maybe I was being too impatient, but it never came up. And it did not take but a second or two before.

I think ports 6 & 7 are going to 2 remote cabinets we have at two other locations, connected by a fiber link. I am not sure what MAT or OTM are, so I will have to look that up to see if we use it, but I don't think so.

Just to be sure
Have you tried with a VT100 terminal emulator type typing AX, immediately Cntrl - ] and again AX immediately?

Yes CarlosPrex. I am using VT100 Emulation..Procomm Plus and also on the terminal. Hardware settings on the Procomm side are 8N1. I can dial into the switch (or log in on the terminal) just fine. I can administer anything on the PBX side. But whenever I type in AX to get to the "Meridian Mail" admin stuff, the cursor just sits there and blinks. I have to use Cntrl - ] to get back to the prompt. It was working as early as 3 weeks ago. And I haven't had the need to get in there in a couple of weeks, but last week when I tried to get in there, this was happening. I have not added anything to or taken anything away from the system. Another thing I have noticed that is different is that I have been getting some strange characters when I leave it up and monitor it for a while. Mostly ")+/" and ").*" things like that. That is something that is different also. Any ideas??

I have found that sometimes it takes a while for the window to refresh after the ax command when using the remote on procomm + Try moving your mouse over the screen to a spot and hit enter to see if it refreshes more. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries for me...

Just a thought,

Just a quick thought on this. Have you tired in LD 37 to disable all of your TTY's, except your own, and then re enabling them to see if one of them had been logged into Mail?.
