Cannot connect to IE6- Windows XP Pro

I have an almost brand-new laptop (Windows XP Pro) that was suddenly having issues accessing secured web sites.

Assumed it was a Norton Internet Security issue, but before I could even remove Norton, the computer would no longer make any connection to the internet- "page cannot be displayed error"

Wireless connection comes up as excellent (3 other computers are using it just fine, cannot connect to modem, and AOL dial-up can load up but not make connection to Internet.

Uninstalled Norton, reinstalled the Operating System twice, scanned for virus with 3 programs, spent hours on the phone with HP tech, installed a Microsoft patch that does nothing, everything comes up fine and clean, but still no contact to IE!!! IP is not static.

To add another thing, last night received a blue screen shutdown " multiple-irp-complete request".

Any thoughts???

check your event log for errors. also next time you connect (and the other pc's are) try checking to see if they all have the same DHCP, DNS and Ip settings. If your using a wireless router I would assume your using NAT on it.

Thanks, I already did the winstock fix to no avail.

Discovered that I can make fine contact with the internet in Safe Mode, but still not in normal mode.

Did more virus checks in safe mode-- still coming up clean. Settings match computers.

Still can only access the internet in safe mode... cleaned out all hidden Symantec/Norton files in registry and nothing!

Any more tips, short of a flatline windows reinstall?

Had a similar problem with a client's PC and it did not allow internet access because of some block caused by a removal of a spyware-type apps. So I installed SpyBotSD1.2 (a freeware cleaner) and then updated it after installation (it now has 12481 checklists) and ran it on the XP PC and wverything worked fine after that. The SpyBotSD apps did warn me about a "fixing registry settings" action and I presume it re-instated the correct registry settings so that IE access is possible.

Reinstall Norton, then:

. Do the Control Panel, Add/remove software again;
. Go to the Symantec Web site for their manual removal tool for NI 2004, and run that;
. Check the entries in Control Panel, Administrative tools, Services, as suggested in this article:

Have already gone into the registry more than several times to hand delete insidious norton/symantec files, including the link mentioned for Windows XP Fix: Edit Registry.

Now, the damn touch pad/mouse is still frozen after about 10 reboots.

I've used multiple spyware detectors (removed the old before running the new) and registry healer.

Once the touchpad "defrosts," I'll try these (used them on desk tops in the mean time).

Using a registry cleaner/editor and removing plaintext keys for Symantec will not do it in this instance.

Again:

. Reinstall the Symantec product
. Download the manual removal
. Check for lingering service dependencies

when I tried to reinstall earlier, Norton would not let me. Still have a frozen touch pad.
