Hi,
I've installed Netbackup Administration 6.0 and updated this to MP7, on a new updated Windows Server 2003 SP2 server. I have a Netapps filer with NDMP enabled and volumes defined.
I've defined the Netapps as an NDMP host and the credentials are validated. But when I try to add this as a client, I receive the error 'cannot connect on socket (25)'. All the services, except for Device Manager are running. The netbackup server, the netapps, and a domain controller are in a seperate test vlan, part of the same domain. There are no firewalls active anywhere. I have added the Netapp under the firewall options in the Master and Media Server properties.
I've already gone through the guides ( Configuring NDMP, Troubleshooting etc.) and have not found a solution.

Thanks

nortelneo,

Can you ping the master server from the client? Can you ping the client from the master?

If that works, from the client, can you telnet to port 13782 on the master?

John

Hi,
Yes, I am able to ping in both cases. However, I am unable to telnet on port 13782. But, I've checked the settings on the Netapps and am not able to find any settings where any ports are blocked or a firewall is enabled. How can I check this?

Thanks.

Hi,
I am seeing the following errors in the logs. Does anyone know where the problem is?
Thanks again.

Hello.

Check the list of Servers allowed to backup the client.
Also check the comms: do a traceroute host1-->host2 and host2-->host1 in the other host. They must be pass thought the same points and with the same interface.

Hi,
A single server is used as the master and media server. And only one network card is used on this server as well as the Netapps. Both servers along with a domain controller are on a single vlan, a test vlan.
Thanks.

nortelneo - I have 3 Netapp Filers in the ENV. 2 connected to one master and another connected to our other master.

check your version of NDMP

also try this command..
[root@netbackup AIX5]# set_ndmp_attr -probe

Hi aixfpl,
I run set_ndmp_attr -probe, but nothing lists. I tried set_ndmp_attr -auth filer, enter the details and add the ndmp host. but then when i try the -probe switch, it still lists nothing.

Thanks.

Hi,

Have you setup NDMP credentials ( a valid user / password) and have you added the filers as NDMP host?

Hi santhas,
Yes, the filers credentials are verified, and I have added it as NDMP host. I am able to see the volumes in the filer, when I run Backup and Restore. I am unable to add the filer to the clients list, it gives me this error.
