Hi

This is a following on thread from how to set up ODBC I created a few days agao.

I have Mysql on a computer. I am trying to connect to it from another computer on the network through ODBC.

This is the setup on the server.

connection Name : localhost
Connectio type : Standard TCP/IP
Hostname : localhost
Username : SA
Port :3306

I have loaded the ODBC connector on the computer and when I try to conncet with

localhost, port 3306, user SA and password, it does not show any databases and also gives me an error message

"Connection failed cant connect to Mysql server as local host 10061"

Could someone please help me out, I have gone through many web pages from google but can find a solution as yet.. Our databse is no good if we cant share it....

Thanks

Inside the Manage Server Instances click on Manage Connections.

Select the connection, and then you can change it to use root, or another user with correct privileges.

Hi

I see where you mean now. I will have to try on the works machine in the morning about 11am.

If you dont know the Root password, is their a way round this?

Are you on line tomorrow in case of further problems... Sorry to ask.

Thanks

Since I have no idea where you are, I don't know what 11 am may be.

US Central standard time works for me. So eleven there would be 12 eastern or 9 pacific if I'm not mistaken.

Hi Vacunita

Sorry of course I forget this is a global site. I am in the UK so our 11am is probably about 4am your time and I certainly would not expect you to be awake in them early hours.

I had the same problem on my laptop last night and managed to sort through using the root instead of sa. Hopefully I can do the same with the work one today, otherwise I will try a re-install.

I will keep you updated

Thanks

Hi

Tried all sorts on the work computer but no luck. I even deleted it all adn re-installed and set it all up again, but I still get the Error starting workbench administrator QueryError executing 'access denied' you need (at least one of) the process privileges for this operation SHOW PROCESSLIST SQL Error 1227
]
The installtion is new and in the root password I set as colin and it does not work. I managed the server isntance and edit and then used store in vault for my password, tested the connection and this said it was ok. But when I close and then try and go into the server admin I get the error message.

Totally pulling my hair out with frustration, it just does not make sense.

Please help as soon as you can ....

The question would be where are you connecting from? Process privileges are granted for root only from the localhost. So root@localhost can run them.

If you are attempting to connect from somewhere else root may not have the show process privileges.

Hi

I have opened a new thread on ths with a slight twist. I beleive now it is failing on the server install.... when it get to setting security it hangs and if I go to the command prompt I get
this for various commnds
''@'localhost'[using password: Yes] "

where I think the root name should be there
'root'@'localhost'[using password: Yes]

Also it as rights to do anything...

Thanks

Hi

I dont suppose you have any ideas on this one, I really am stuck with it and dont seem to be getting anywhere with it.

Mant thanks

Hi

I am getting the same error as madvalpreston. When I create a new server instance, everything is fine. But when I close the setup window and double click on the database server instance, "mysqld@localhost," the error message I get is

Unhandled exception: Error executing'Access denied; you need (at least one of) the PROCESS privilege(s) for this operation' SHOW PROCESSLIST. SQL Error: 1227

However, when I read vacunita's reply, "Where are you connecting from?" I am using a company compter that requires s login and then loads my usersettings into the computer.

I contacted the Data Department and asked them what was the causing this problem. I found out that the person who installed it on the computer for me had created a root password and forgot to send the password for me to use.

I hope this is useful to anyone else who gets this problem.

My solution was simple. Make sure you know the root password if you want to use MySQL Workbench.
