Cannot complete PPP connection after Microsoft Updates

I did Microsoft auto-updates on my laptop yesterday and could not complete a PPP connection into any S8xxx system. I could dial in, get a login prompt, but couldn't see myself login in the terminal window. I called Avaya...no luck. Our PC guy and I tried a few different things and finally I had to remove the updates. Anyone else have this issue?
 
Yes,my colleauge spoke to Microsoft and they didn't know why.They suggested a system restore ,which worked ok.
It looks like its the security update KB893756??
 
I don't have KB893756, I'm using Windows XP Pro. By backing out the updates one at a time, I've found KB911280 to be the update that was causing the trouble.
