Cannot browse server from client

Hello,

I have installed CVS on my CPQ server. I have installed WinCvs and Tortoise on my client. Everything works fine.

I installed ViewCvs on the server. However, I cannot browse the server using

http://<server

ip address>/cgi-bin/test.cgi. I always get the error &quot;The page cannot be found&quot;.

I have only been using windows for two weeks and get most of my help from the internet so don't know tcp/ip at all.

I'm using Win2K.

Do you get the error from the client or the server? If from the client can you successfully ping the server with that IP address?

It doesn't really look like an IP problem to me, more the set-up of the web server. Does the CVS software have a built in web server? If not I think you need to run one.

If you just go to

http://<server_ip>:80

what do you get returned?

Hi Nick,

I get the error on the client side. If I use 127.0.0.1 on the server, everything is okay. I can ping the server from the client too. I installed the CVS web server (ViewCvs).

When I entered the above address on the client, I get &quot;The page cannot be found&quot;.

on client side, telnet to server ip: port 80.
GET / http/1.1
to check if you can get the page or not.

simple way---get a packet trace. will know what happen.

1) make sure 80 port is open on server side :netstat -na

2) index.htm/html in the page you request..

I opened a command window and entered:
telnet <ipaddress>:80

It responded: Connecting to <ipaddress>:80...Could not open a connection to host on port 23: Connect failed.

Hmm...you telnet to a wrong port. port 23 is the telnet port.

Do you have unix ? It will be easier telnet from unix.

Any way , follow this steps:

1)telnet ip 80
2)GET / HTTP/1.1
3)Host: ip address
4)<enter> <enter>(key control)

see if you can get the page.

I only have Windows 2000 Pro. I read somewhere that I have to install the terminal services client. Would that make any difference?
