Hello! I really hope that someone is able to help me. I have read several postings and chapters in books and cannot find a solution to my problem. I have PPTP, RAS and VPN on an NT server 4.0 with service pack 4. My client is Win2000 Professional. I am able to connect to my cisco router and then connect to the VPN. When I gain access to the network I am unable to browse. I have tried mapping a drive, searching for a computer name, etc. with no luck. When I go to the CMD prompt I am unable to ping any computers on the network except for our Proxy servers external address and the default gateway (our router) address, I cannot even ping the RAS servers address. (Please note the RAS server and the Proxy server are in the same domain). We have tried to enable Netbeui. Also, we have put in the address for the WINS server that is located in the other domain in the TCP/IP configuration. The router that is being used has worked before we brought in the new BDC. I cannot find out how to check to see if the ports are enabled but I assume they are. Is there a file in NT that will tell me the ports that are enabled and are being used? And, by default isn't there a routing table on this RAS server (Normally this server is able to browse)or should I put in a static table for it to use? Please, if anyone can help me get this RAS server back up and running I will be truely in debt to you. Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.
Best regards,
Tracy

browsing problems can sometimes be resolved by looking at the wins server. Is everything configured correctly there? Default gateway, routing and such. Ports open for netbios? netstat will tell you what ports are listening on the system. Maybe somethings to check out. Good luck.

Hello all. The solution to my problem was simple. I simply reinstalled Service Pack 4 and all's well. Thank you for your help.

I have the same problem. I can connect to my vpn server a winnt40 box. but when I connect i cannot browse, ping, etc. WTF

Hello, Icandothat! Have you tried to reinstall the service pack? That is all I had to do to get my machine working. Any time you install a service on your computer you have to reinstall the service pack. Hope that helps!
