When we deactivate or delete users Email account in Active Directory the Veritas back-up job fails with a message similar to this:

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?Randy2 [randy2] and its subdirectories.

Randy2 was the name on the account.

If we reactivate the account the backup works fine.

Any suggestions?

Is the individual user's mailbox still selected in the Veritas backup job? Selecting items that exist to build jobs and then changing them can cause errors.

One suggestion, remove the mailbox from the backup.

Best way to cofigure the backup job for mailboxes(or any drive for that matter) is to select the Top Level, Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes, and then exclude the ones that you don't want to backup.
In the selection list, this will create an include statement for all mailboxes, then an exclude statement for each mailbox you don't want to backup.

Then if you disable any users or mailboxes from then on, you won't get the error and won't have to exclude the mailboxes.

For a deleted account, you may need to go into Exchange to make sure that the mailbox is truly deleted. Once you delete the mailbox after deleting the account, you shouldn't see these errors.

For a disabled account, check out:
That article explains how to get the accounts set properly so that Veritas doesn't error out on them.

even if you purge the mailboxes from the store, if the backup job says to include that particular mailbox for backup it will always give the same error because it can't find it.

Follow my steps above and look at the selection list in text view..

then unselect everything and select individual mailboxes, then look at the selection list in text view - you will see what I mean.

Thanks for the input. I've been out of the office and just got back in. I'm not the real support person for the back-ups so I took the easy way out and recreated the folder. The person that set it all up originally will be in Monday and I will pass these suggestions on. I'll post what the solution turns out to be.

Thanks again!
