Hello,

Hoping someone here might have a solution for me, here's the issue:

A WinME system I am working on, can ping IP address and does DNS lookups, but will not browse the internet. I have attempted removing dun, and the tcp/ip entries in the registry to no avail, still the same problem.

What concerns me though, since the above solution has worked for me in the past on other systems, is that currently, if I removed TCP/IP protocol from the network properties, and attempt to add it back in, when the protocol list comes up, there is only Microsofts ATM call manager listed, no netbui, tcp/ip, etc...

I read an article on microsofts techbase about restoring the nettrans.inf files, and a couple other associated INF's, but that did nothing, and all file dates and times of those files are the original ME date/time.

At this point, I am almost convinced whatever is causing my issue with adding tcp/ip is the root of the no browsing problem.

I can get tcp/ip installed if I select all communcation options (dun, dus, hyperterminal, etc) from the windows setup tab, but if I remove tcp/ip, the only way to get it back is to remove all the communciations programs, and reinstall them.

When tcp/ip is listed in the network properties list, it seems to operate fine as far as configuration etc.. I can ping, tracert, pretty much everything, except browse the internet.

Any clues? Scanned for viruses, found nothing, not the nic card, already tried different brand/drivers. Bought ready to reformat, figured I'd toss it out here and see if anyone has run into something similar.

Thanks in advance!

Well, that fixed the problem with no browsing the internet, but I still don't have a TCP/IP listed in the protocols list.

Thanks so much for the link, and advice, and if anybody has any ideals regarding the no tcp/ip protocol just post it, would be great to get all the issues resolved, but in the meantime I am up and going on this client.. thanks again!

As far as I understand it your TCP/IP protocol must be installed - even if for some reason you can't see it listed - otherwise how are you connecting to the Internet!

I can get the tcp/ip protocol installed if when I goto add/remove programs, and goto the windows setup tab, and select the entire communications section (all the dun, dus, netmeeting, hyperterminal, phone dialer, etc), and then restart the computer. When I am back into ME, and goto the network properties, tcp/ip is in the installed list...

But if I remove all instances of it, and then restart the computer, and go back into network properties and attempt to add tcp/ip, it only lists the ATM call manager protocol, nothing more.

Its not a large issue anymore, as I got the browsing to start working, but still something that'll bug me for a while :)
